Titles of Jesus in the Gospel of John

QUESTION: What are the titles of Jesus in the gospel of John?

ANSWER:

There are many different names for Jesus used in the book of John. In John 6:33, it says, "For the Bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world". And then just two verses later, (John 6:35) Jesus declared, "I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." In verse 48, Jesus simply says, "I am the bread of life."

Also, Jesus is the great Creator (John 1:3). "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." Since Jesus is God, and the Living Word, He is the originator of everything you see around you.

The book of John starts by calling Jesus, God, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Jesus existed and had His hand in creation way before He was born a human child.

Just as we walk through a gate, we enter God's family through Jesus (John 10:9 "Gate"). He then becomes our good shepherd. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). His torture and death were the trade off for our redemption. His beautiful body was ravaged because His love for us was so great. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me (John 10:14). In (John 8:58), He tells us that He is the great "I Am."

Jesus is the "King of Israel" (John 1:49), the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29), the "Light of the World" (John 8:12), and the "Only Begotten Son of God" (John 1:18). He is called the "Son of God" (John 1:49), the "True Bread" (John 6:32), and the "True Light" (John 1:9). Jesus is also called the "True Vine" (John 15:1), the "Truth" (John 1:14; 14:6), and the "Way" (John 14:6). But most importantly Jesus is the "Resurrection and Life" (John 11:25). He is the one who saves you and who saves me. He is everything!

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
