What is Holy Monday

QUESTION: What is Holy Monday?

ANSWER:

Holy Monday reveals where Jesus obtained strength to face the challenges of Passion Week. The Bible scholar, William Barclay suggests,

“Before he [Jesus] joined the battle with men he sought the presence of God. It was only because each day he [Jesus] faced God that he could face men with such courage.”1

Several times, Jesus had made the journey to Jerusalem for Passover–-as a baby in His mother’s womb, a 12-year-old questioned by the teachers of the Law, and finally, as the Sacrificial Lamb and Redeemer. Yet, the triumphant celebration of Jesus’ final entry into the Holy City on Sunday withered like the fig tree on Holy Monday.

On this day, Jesus used this dramatic prophetic sign [a barren tree] to warn of God’s impending judgment on Israel.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
